How to survive the lockdown

I hear many people these days moaning about being bored although the lockdown has just started. Isn’t it ironic that we always complain about having to time to do this and that and then when we finally have time, we are bored? I’m sure if we reflect a bit, we find plenty of activities that can be done during the lockdown and will make us happy!

To give you some ideas, here are the things that I can highly recommend:

  1. Create a workout routine I remember so many people always complaining about not finding enough time to workout during work weeks. Well guess what, if you’re someone in home office now, you automatically have more time now because you save time by working from home (= no commute). Even if you’re workplace was within 10 minutes from your home, you have 20 extra minutes now. Use them! The next complain may be that you do not know what to do or that working out is not fun. I can only tell you that there is a perfect way of working out for you, you just have to discover it. Try out as many things at possible: running, walking, doing home workouts via YouTube (I personally love Pamela Reif’s workout videos), yoga, etc. Why you should workout at all? It’s not about your weight, it’s about your health. We humans are not made for sitting / lying around all day long. We need to move! Moving makes us happy and healthy. All those people suffering from back and neck pain need to move! It’s not that hard. The easiest is taking a simple walk outside. It doesn’t matter whether you do it alone or with your partner / friend / family member. Just start moving!

  2. Create different places at home Many people complain about not being able to go to restaurants, cafes, the Christmas market, etc. You can create the “restaurant feeling” at home. The other day I read on Madeleine Alizadeh’s Instagram account (dariadaria) that she and her partner are doing theme dinners for each other. Isn’t that a great idea? All you need for that is Dr. Google and a supermarket. You can create your own Mexican restaurant at home. The same goes for Christmas markets, make those Christmas drinks yourself, decorate your living room (or your terrace / garden if you have one) and enjoy! How often I heard about people not having time to cook! Well, now you have the time! You can create a lot of different meals, and this will be a great way of discovering new meals that you will also make once the lockdown is over. Pre-cooking for the week is a pretty cool thing, you know? ;)

  3. Declutter Getting rid of old stuff and creating space for new things is such a great feeling. Now is the right time! The weather is cold, we must stay inside anyway, so why not be productive? And when you have more space you can think about what to do with it. Rearrange your furniture, change decoration, do whatever you like. And make sure not to throw away your stuff but to pass it on to someone else. The other day I got rid of a few boxes of Persian wedding decoration. The proud new owner is the owner of a flower shop who used a lot of it to make advent wreaths with children. I even received some pictures (e.g. the cover picture of this blog). Isn’t it beautiful? So the decoration came all the way from Iran to Austria, served at our wedding and is now used for Christmas decoration.

These are just a few ideas on what to do during lockdown. If you need more, just get in touch with me. One very important tool in coaching is brainstorming so if you’re lacking ideas I can surely help you with that.

All the best to you!
